OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T Receives May Android Security Update with Oxygen OS Open Beta

Just ahead of the official launch of the OnePlus 6 flagship device in London today, OnePlus has started rolling out a new Oxygen OS open beta update to the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T devices. In addition to the beta update, the May Android Security update is also being rolled out.

Coming to the software update, the OnePlus 3 is getting Open Beta 36, while the OnePlus 3T is getting Open Beta 27. The OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T is getting Open Beta 10 and open Beta 8 update respectively. The new update also brings some new features to all the four devices mentioned above. While there is no change in the changelog, the latest update brings a new Toolbox Card in the shelf home screen and a Hidden Space for the app drawer. Although it is not clear what this hidden space in the app drawer actually means, it does show that the new update will bring support for editing dynamic icons like the Clock, Weather and calendar widgets.

One of the major highlights of the latest update is the introduction of an optimized user interface for OnePlus switch applications. It brings a completely redesigned user-interface for backup & restore and an optimized logic for the time remaining. In addition to the above-mentioned features, the update also brings bug fixes and improvements in stability of the device.

However, the open beta software update is not being rolled out over the air and the Chinese smartphone maker has posted all the instructions to be followed for flashing the device on the download page. If you intend to update your compatible OnePlus device now, you can head over to the download page of Oxygen OS open beta and follow the instructions carefully.

Google recently announced the Android P beta at the Google I/O 2018 developer conference held last week. It also confirmed that Android P beta will be available to OnePlus 6 just after its official launch today. Now with OnePlus rolling out the Open Beta update and the May Android security patch to the predecessors of the OnePlus 6, it seems to be a matter of time before Android P is rolled out to the older models of the OnePlus family.
