Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Starts Receiving Android 9 Pie Update

Japanese tech giant Sony has started rolling out the stable version of Android 9 Pie to its flagship Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone. Earlier this month, the company had rolled out the Android 9 Pie update to Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact. As per the latest reports, the update to Xperia XZ2 Premium comes with build number 52.0.A.3.84 and it also includes the Android Security patch for the month of November.

The information about the release of this update for the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has been shared by Xperia Blog. As per the report, Sony is not adopting the advanced gesture navigation system of Android 9 Pie for the Xperia XZ2 Premium, however, the users will get Sony’s new camera interface. The report also states that the latest update may include more features for the camera as the Xperia XZ2 Premium is the only device from the company with a dual rear camera setup.

Talking about other phones from the Sony Xperia family, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact had already received the Android 9 Pie update last month. Sony has also confirmed that the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus will receive the latest update by the end of the year.

To recall the specifications of the Xperia XZ2 Premium, the device sports a 5.8-inch 4K HDR Triluminous display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845SoC coupled with 6GB RAM. On the optics front, the device features a dual rear camera setup with a 19-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor accompanied by an LED flash. On the front, it features a 13-megapixel sensor for taking selfies and video calling. Powered by a 3,540mAh battery under the hood that supports fast charging, the device was launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
