Huawei Mate 9 to Soon Receive Android Oreo Update

The Huawei Mate 9 is soon to receive its Android Oreo update, making it one of the older devices to receive the latest Android update. We have previously covered the Huawei Mate 9 in great detail and the last time it was in the headlines was when the price tag of the Mate 9 was slashed, possibly to aid in the sales volumes of the soon-to-be-launched Huawei Mate 10. The Mate 10 will have multiple variants.

When the Huawei Mate 9 was released last year, it proved to be a worthy competitor to the likes of the Apple iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7. We recently spotted the last year’s Huawei flagship on GeekBench running on the latest Android OS. This means that the company is already in the process of rolling out the new OS for its devices. In fact, we believe that once the Huawei Mate 9 receives the update, it will be among the first few devices which will get the new OS.

The Huawei Mate 9 will soon receive the Oreo update

Currently, the Huawei Mate 9 runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box overlaid with Emotion UI 5.0 skin. Should the new reports be true, the Mate series, including the Huawei Mate 10 (which is already in the process of receiving the Oreo update), will be upgraded to the latest Android version. Several other Huawei devices are also expected to receive the Oreo update as well: these include the Huawei P10, the Honor 8 Pro, the Honor 8 and Honor 8 Lite as well as the Honor 6X. This means that users of the Huawei Mate 9 will soon be able to update to the newer OS.

Some features which the users will enjoy are the Picture-in-Picture mode, new Notification Dots, extremely practical Android Instant Apps as well as much longer battery life. Users will also be able to access a new notification channel. and more. This new update will come as an OTA (or Over-The-Air) update. However, if you are holding your breath for the updates, don’t. The rollout will happen in phases and will be available in selected areas first.
