Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1+ Starts Receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Update in India

The Japanese tech giant, Sony has announced on Thursday that it has started to roll out the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1+ devices in India. The two smartphones were launched exclusively in India in October 2017. Sony had promised that it would bring the latest Android Oreo update to the two smartphones and it seems that the company is keeping its promise. The update process has begun from last week, however, some users have reported bugs and app crashes after installing the latest version of Android on their devices.

The new update brings a host of new features like Picture-in-Picture mode that enables a user to perform two tasks at the same time. Suppose you want to send a text message or email while watching a Youtube video, you can do that by minimizing the current window and then send the text message. It also brings Notification dots, smart auto-fill options, redesigned quick settings menu, faster reboot and other bug fixes and security updates. The updates also include a security patch update for the two Xperia devices.

A report by FoneArena has also claimed that the Xperia R1 duo will receive features like Xperia Actions, which is an AI-based service that can suggest actions based on interaction with games on the smartphone. It will also receive other features like a contextual menu for app shortcuts, reminders for unfinished tasks and more. Users can manually check for the updates by going to Settings> About Phone> System Update.

Coming to the specifications, both the Sony Xperia devices come with similar features except for the RAM and internal storage space. They feature a display screen of 5.2-inch TFT full HD with a resolution of 720 X 1280. They are both powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. While the Xperia R1 features 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage space, the Xperia R1+ sports #GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage.

On the camera front, The Xperia R1 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The devices are powered by 2620mAh battery and connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.2,  3G/4G LTE, Wi-Fi, FM Radio and a USB Type-C port for charging.
