LG Expected to Unveil Foldable Smartphone at CES 2019

South Korean consumer electronics company LG is likely to introduce a foldable smartphone for the first time in 2019. Following the recent trend of multiple cameras, in-display fingerprint scanners, and display notches in 2018, several smartphone makers are now said to be working on foldable devices that will see the light of the day in 2019. LG is speculated to join the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi, Microsoft and Huawei which are already working on foldable smartphone devices of their own. As per the latest information, LG is expected to launch its foldable smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019.

Reputed tipster Evan Blass took to Twitter recently to say that he knows LG has plans to unveil a foldable smartphone at CES 2019. He further said that he does not know about any plans of Samsung to launch a foldable smartphone but he was sure about LG. However, he did not reveal any other information about the alleged smartphone from LG. Interestingly, Ken Hong, Head of Global Corporate Communications, LG said in an interview to Digital Trends that “anything is possible at CES”. CES 2019 keynote is due to be held in Las Vegas, USA from January 8 to January 11, 2019.

It is important to note that even if LG unveils a foldable smartphone in January 2019, it may not be available for purchase immediately. This is because there has been no official communication from LG so far regarding the launch of the device and the possible date of its availability is still unknown.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also said to be working on a new foldable smartphone model. Notably, Evan Blass tweeted a response to an inquiry about the Samsung device stating, “Don’t take this to mean that Samsung isn’t also showing theirs at the show – I’ve read that they are – as it only means what it says, I can’t personally speak to it.” He further added, “To me the appeal is obvious: we’re close to the limit in mobile device screen sizes, and foldables have the ability to push that limit out quite a bit.”
